Platform as a Service (PaaS)
Scalable, secure and purpose-built digital platforms for agriculture and industry
Platform as a Service (PaaS) is a model facilitates delivery of a complete, managed technology environment that enable organisations to deploy applications, manage data and engage users — without the cost or complexity of building their own infrastructure.
At its core, PaaS provides the digital foundation for collaboration, integration and innovation.
AxisTech’s PaaS offerings combine secure cloud infrastructure, data management, analytics and mapping capabilities to rapidly deliver customised platforms for research, industry and producer groups.
What Platform as a Service means for agriculture
In agriculture, data, devices, and decision support are often fragmented across multiple systems and formats. Platform as a Service brings these elements together in a unified, secure environment where information flows seamlessly between users, sensors and systems.
AxisTech enables Platform as a Service solutions that:
Aggregate and manage complex data — spatial, environmental, production, and commercial datasets in one secure environment.
Provide configurable user experiences — supporting research, advisory, industry or producer audiences through tailored dashboards and permissions.
Deliver continuous improvement — integrating analytics, machine learning and feedback loops for ongoing platform enhancement.
Reduce duplication and cost — by using shared cloud infrastructure, common standards, and scalable data pipelines rather than bespoke, siloed systems.

AxisTech’s capability to deliver PaaS
AxisTech’s data and mapping platforms — AxisStream and FarmMap4D — form the backbone of our PaaS ecosystem. They provide the frameworks for:
Data management & integration: APIs, device feeds, and analytics pipelines hosted on secure infrastructure.
Mapping & visualisation: farm-scale to national-scale mapping with dynamic overlays for spatial and sensor data.
User management: role-based access and authentication supporting multiple stakeholder tiers (researchers, administrators, producers, partners).
Scalable architecture: modular infrastructure allowing individual projects or industry programs to scale from pilot to production use.
AxisTech combines deep software engineering capability with domain expertise in agriculture and environmental systems, allowing us to translate complex industry needs into practical, working digital platforms — delivered as a managed service.
Case Study:
SafeFarms WA
Digitising safety systems for Western Australian agriculture
SafeFarms WA is a farmer-led, not-for-profit organisation that supports farm businesses to improve workplace health and safety (WHS) practices across the agricultural sector. In partnership with SafeFarms WA and with funding support from CSBP, AxisTech designed and built the new SafeFarms WA digital platform and mobile app — transforming the way safety management is implemented on farms.
Challenge
Farm safety systems have historically relied on paper forms, binders, and ad-hoc procedures. For many farm businesses, maintaining compliance with modern WHS legislation had become time-consuming and inconsistent. SafeFarms WA needed a modern, easy-to-use digital solution that would make safety management practical and accessible to all farm users — from owners and managers to employees and contractors.
AxisTech’s approach
AxisTech applied its Platform as a Service model to deliver a robust, cloud-based system underpinned by its existing data and user-management architecture.
Key elements included:
User-centred design: AxisTech developed the system around the needs of both end users (farmers, staff, contractors) and internal administrators (SafeFarms WA staff managing content and compliance).
Digitisation and modernisation: Converting forms, prestart checklists, inductions and hazard registers into mobile-friendly workflows accessible anywhere on farm.
Integration and accessibility: A secure, scalable platform capable of future integration with training content, reporting tools, and partner systems.
Industry relevance: The platform was built with funding support from CSBP and through ongoing consultation with farmers and agribusiness stakeholders to ensure practical fit-for-purpose outcomes.
Outcome
The SafeFarms WA platform modernises farm safety for Western Australian agriculture — embedding good WHS practice into daily operations. It demonstrates the power of AxisTech’s Platform as a Service approach: taking a domain-specific challenge, aligning it with robust digital infrastructure, and delivering a solution that is scalable, maintainable, and ready for future growth.

Why Platform as a Service matters
Digitisation and data integration are central to the resilience and competitiveness of Australia’s agricultural industries. By offering Platform as a Service, AxisTech gives research organisations, industry programs, and commercial partners the ability to:
Deliver impactful technology without needing to build it from scratch.
Retain control of their content, data, and users.
Scale delivery efficiently across multiple projects, industries, or regions.
AxisTech’s PaaS model is enabling a new generation of connected, data-driven, and user-focused platforms that accelerate sustainability, safety and productivity across the agricultural landscape.
