Research & Sustainability

Sustainability in agriculture is critical for its continuation into the future and research will play a vital role in choosing the most valuable path

Sustainability in agriculture is critical for its continuation into the future, and research will play a vital role in choosing the most valuable path. We see the research that we put into sustainability for individual businesses will help them become more sustainable in all senses of the word. The Research and Sustainability team is a multi-disciplinary team with backgrounds in agricultural soil science, environmental management, data science, animal science and environmental engineering. The team works on many elements of sustainability with current projects focusing on testing devices for carbon measurement, carbon mapping, digitising carbon calculators, farm animal monitoring and wildlife monitoring.

Carbon is currently a common feature in our projects both in relation to climate and as a soil health indicator, promoting sustainable soils. At AxisTech we believe agriculture has a massive part to play in supporting environmental protection. This is why we are involved in a range of sustainability focused agricultural projects and aim to always be on the forefront of innovation. We have a team dedicated to research and sustainability and have projects related to soil carbon in cropping and livestock systems, carbon calculations, on-farm biodiversity and general ESG in agriculture. Looking after our planet is of benefit to us and agriculture.

5M Approach

‍At AxisTech we follow the 5M approach for our sustainability projects: Measurement, Modelling, Metrics, Method and Monetise.
We aim to use the best technologies to take the appropriate and automated readings to help measure where you have been and track where you are going as you start to make practice changes. These measurements are then managed and compared against metrics. The data evaluated against metrics enables us to assess the effectiveness of our sustainability method changes as we ‘turn the dial’ on our practices. In order to be a truly sustainable practice the process should be profitable and potentially monetised, solving the challenge of demonstrated return on investment and sustainable investment opportunities. At the end of this process the data will be stored in the AxisStream database to be used in reports, analysis and data sharing. We have a growing number of integrations with several other platforms, such as Stockbook®. Data ingestion involves the transportation of data from assorted sources to a storage medium where it can be accessed, used, and analysed. An important aspect of data ingestion is knowing what a client needs, and how to provide that.
