Vineyard of the Future Data Hub
The Vineyard of the Future Data Hub, developed with Charles Sturt University, Food Agility CRC, and Wine Australia, is creating a national digital ecosystem for the wine industry. AxisTech leads the development of the Hub, building it on the AxisStream data-management platform. The platform securely integrates sensor, satellite, climate, and operational data, transforming complex datasets into clear, actionable insights.
The Hub is fully aligned with the Australian Agricultural Data Exchange (AADX) and establishes the foundation for AI-enabled forecasting, benchmarking, and sustainability reporting.
Key capabilities include:
- Unified data integration for sensor, climate, satellite and production datasets
- Custom dashboards for vineyard managers, researchers and policy users
- AI-ready architecture for forecasting and decision support
- Robust data sharing and governance framework consistent with AADX standards
- Collaborative, co-designed approach with industry stakeholders
The Vineyard of the Future initiative is a step towards connected digital infrastructure for the wine industry — bridging research and commercial production to help future-proof viticulture and enhance resilience.
UWA Drought Hub – Vineyard Monitoring
AxisTech supports the UWA Drought Hub project “Implementing improved vineyard floor management for premium grape production in a warm and dry Mediterranean climate.” Our role includes providing devices, data connectivity and analytics for real-time monitoring of environmental conditions, soil moisture and canopy response. The data infrastructure enables researchers and producers to measure the impacts of management practices on vineyard health, water use and grape quality under a changing climate.
Devices & Data Management
AxisTech deploys and integrates a wide range of vineyard devices and sensors, including weather stations, soil probes, canopy cameras, and irrigation monitors. These are connected through AxisStream, delivering real-time insights on:
- Disease pressure and risk alerts based on temperature, humidity and leaf-wetness conditions
- Irrigation scheduling and water-use efficiency
- Frost, heat and canopy-temperature monitoring
- Yield and growth modelling through time-series data
Data collected from these devices is managed, visualised, and shared through AxisStream dashboards, ensuring secure collaboration between vineyard managers, researchers and agronomists.
Vineyard Mapping & Infrastructure
Using FarmMap4D, AxisTech provides vineyard mapping and analysis tools for:
- Infrastructure mapping of irrigation lines, blocks, and access routes
- Topography and elevation modelling for drainage and frost management
- Time-series imagery for canopy-cover and ground-cover analysis
- Integration of operational, environmental and geospatial layers for planning and compliance
This capability supports both commercial vineyards and research sites, offering a single digital map that connects physical assets with environmental and operational data.
